Art at Highcroft Drive Elementary
My name is Dawn McCormick-Dahm and I have taught visual art at Highcroft Drive Elementary School for over 10 years. Before moving to North Carolina, I earned my BFA with an Art Education major from the University of Arizona. I have also taken graduate classes at NAU and KSU and taught art in Arizona and Kansas bringing my years of teaching experience to 20+.
It is a pleasure to watch my students grow from curious kindergarteners to confident fifth graders. I try to bring out the artist in every child as they learn new techniques with a variety of media such as paint, clay, collage, markers, pastels, crayons, yarn and more. Students are exposed to art from a variety of artists, cultures and historical periods. They are inspired by these works as well as their own experiences and environment as they create unique works of art while learning essential skills.
I am am the mother of two young men who attended Highcroft Drive Elementary School. When I am not at school I enjoy creating acrylic paintings as well as cooking, attending cultural events, visiting museums, and exploring the outdoors.
